#6 Steve Jobs’ 2005 Standford Commencement Address

I chose the three most interesing questions to answer.

1. How did the talk affect you?
I admire his perseverance. Even if he hit rock bottom, he can still quickly cheer up and start over. This kind of spirit is worth learning from. I may be afraid of failure and even have a shadow, but such as an accomplished person is always having this experience, I can’t back down, I should just move forward harder and break through.

2. How does this talk catch the listeners’ attention (or does it all)?
I think he uses storytelling method to attract the audience’s attention, and he tells his own experience, which makes college students more interested in learning about its success.

3. Has the talk changed your mind about something? If so, explain how.
Before listening to his speech, my thoughts on future were easily limited to the departments I studied in college. But now, it has given me the courage to try various things that I am interested in.

#5 Gap Year

Every person’s gap year will look a little different, but, if you take one, what will you probably do? Why?

I would like to be an international volunteer. I used to be a volunteer at Laiguowang Elementary School in the Thailand-Myanmar border area during the summer vacation of high school. The environment there seems to be in the past when my grandparents lived place, flushed the toilet with a spoon, water and electricity are restricted, no Internet, and no water heater. I remember that there was a big temperature difference between morning and evening, and no hot water at night, so the volunteers took a shower at noon. Instead, the local residents were really just like what we saw in the textbook, they didn’t understand and were not used to hygiene knowledge, therefore we witnessing a mother helping a child with head lice. If I hadn't participated in this kind of volunteering activities by myself, and just looked at the pictures of life in poor areas on the Internet, I would never have realized how happy I am now, so if I had a gap year, I would want to try it again.

#4 Body Language

What are two of the important aspects of body language you want to improve the most when having an online meeting/class next time? Why?

I want to improve hand gestures and avoid touching the face from 8 top tips article, when I talk to my classmates face to face, I often touch my face that because I’m nervous, but if it an online meeting, we don’t actually meet, I can try to use gestures instead of touching the face, to shift the focus of the hand to the action.

Part2. What could the world or other countries do to help Ukraine and its people?

In a globalized world, countries need to exchange resources to achieve greater benefits, so I think those countries that do business with Russia can force Russia to stop its attacks on Ukraine by cutting off the supply of goods that are important to Russia, and countries close to Ukraine can open border areas for Ukrainian to take refuge.
